The CFM Third Annual Fall Festival, held on October 31, was a wonderful event! The turnout was great, and we had fun activities for the whole family, including live music from the Delta Blues Museum, pumpkin carving, arts & crafts, apple bobbing, rice crispy treat decorating, and free snacks, including delicious duck & lentil soup from Madidi.

Thank you to all of our wonderful vendors and customers for making the 2009 market season such a success – we will miss you during the winter, but will be in touch soon as we plan for the 2010 market season. We hope to have more involvement from the community as we continue to grow and improve the Clarksdale Farmers Market!

Hello all,
We hope to see you this Saturday at the Farmers Market in the green space on the 200 block of Delta Avenue! The Market is open from 8:00 am until noon (or whenever we sell out).

It is the tail end of the summer crop of fruits and vegetables, but weather-permitting, it looks like there will be a good supply of tomatoes into the fall, and our growers still have cucumbers, squash, butterbeans, field peas, okra, and herbs available. If we’re lucky, there is a chance we will have some late summer peaches and melons this Saturday.

While we are waiting for the cooler weather crops to arrive, make sure to stock up on our prepared foods and preserves. They make great snacks for school lunches and football tailgating parties! We will have tons of prepared foods available this week, including pickles, pickled okra, chow chow, chicken salad, pimento cheese, fig, peach, and pear preserves, pasta sauce, corn & crab chowder, and various baked goods, including breads, pies, cookies, and pastries.

Don’t forget to try some of the fresh-baked artisanal breads from the newest addition to our Market, Journey baker Matthew Joseph. Matthew just moved to Clarksdale, and bakes fresh every Saturday a variety of delicious and interesting breads, including Italian baguettes, rosemary garlic boules, buttermilk currant bread (which makes a great French toast!), and whole wheat, flax, and muesli loaves. His breads are reasonably priced, but they are selling out fast!

Once again, we want to remind you that the Mississippi Department of Agriculture is holding a series of workshops around the state to help Mississippi fruit and vegetable producers to learn more about cool season production and growing season extension through the use of high tunnels. For more information, check out the flyer here: http://www.mdac.state.ms.us/n_library/departments/farm_mkt/pdf/Cool%20Season%20Production%20Registration%20Form.pdf

Thank you again for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you Saturday.
